Biography
Born in Geelong, Australia in 1986, Ben spent his formative years learning classical trumpet whilst performing regularly with a community Concert Band and many of the ensembles on offer throughout High School.
After graduating High School, he turned his interests towards improvisation, commencing studies in Jazz at the Gordon Institute of TAFE before being formally invited to study a Bachelor of Jazz Performance at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
While studying at WAAPA, Ben taught in various local schools as a peripatetic tutor, and upon graduating began a career as a full time music educator and freelance musician.
In 2011, in pursuit of something more performance based, Ben joined Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines as a musician, performing nightly shows to packed audiences as he sailed around the South Pacific. Soon after returning to Australia, he successfully auditioned for a position with the Royal Australian Navy Band as a Jazz Specialist.
After 6 years of Service in the Australian Navy, having performed at hundreds of significant national events including the Gallipoli Dawn Service in Turkey and the Anzac Day Football match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, he and his family relocated to the United Kingdom. Ben took up a role in the iconic Band of the Welsh Guards, wearing the signature scarlet and gold tunic and bearskin.
In recent years Ben has had the honour of performing at the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, The Coronation of King Charles III, VE75 celebrations at Buckingham Palace, and many other events of historical importance.
Throughout his career he has had the privilege of performing with such artists as James Morrison, Katherine Jenkins, Beverley Knight, Anton Du Beke, Kate Ceberano, David Helfgott, Katie Noonan, Anthony Callea and many more.
Additionally, Ben made a guest solo appearance on the iconic Australian programme 'Neighbours', and has performed in Hawaii, Tonga, France, China, Fiji, Solomon Islands, New Zealand, Turkey, Cocos Keeling Islands, Switzerland, Germany and the United Kingdom.
He now resides with his wife and 2 young daughters in Fleet, Hampshire UK.
